LOUISIANA, April 16, 2025 (WAFA) - Activists and human rights activists from across the United States gathered outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in rural Jena, Louisiana, where Palestinian student and activist Mahmoud Khalil is being "unlawfully" detained.
The protesters emphasized that they came to deliver a clear message: "The struggle for Khalil's freedom is an extension of the broader struggle for justice and freedom of expression, especially in light of the ongoing repression of supporters of the Palestinian cause."
Despite an immigration judge's decision to keep Khalil in detention, his legal team continues to appeal the decision in court, amid growing public support.
In the same context, hundreds of activists gathered last night outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) headquarters in Washington, D.C., to stand with the students and oppose the deportation of those who support Palestinian rights on American campuses.
