Weather: Low-pressure front affects country; drop in temperature

RAMALLAH, February 20, 2025 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD) said that the country will be affected today by a low-pressure polar cold front, and thus temperatures will drop significantly to become lower than their annual average, as the weather will be cold with showers of rain falling on various regions, heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms and hail at times.

Winds will be northwesterly to westerly, active in speed with strong gusts. Sea waves will be high.

In the evening and night hours, the weather will be cloudy and very cold. Scattered showers of rain will fall on various regions.

On Friday, the impact of the low-pressure cold front on the country will continue, and thus temperatures will drop again to become lower than their annual average by about 4 degrees Celsius. Scattered rain will fall from time to time on various regions. 

Saturday's weather will continue to be very cold, especially in mountainous areas. Temperatures will drop further to become about 6 degrees Celsius below their annual average. Showers of rain will fall on various regions, heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms and hail at times.

PMD added that the weather will continue to be very cold next Sunday, especially in mountainous areas, and another drop in temperatures will occur. A slight chance of rain and light snow showers on the mountainous areas, especially the southern ones.

The Meteorological Department warned citizens during the low pressure cold front on the country of the danger of strong wind speeds, which sometimes reach 60 km/h, and of low horizontal visibility, and of the danger of slipping on the roads, as well as of the danger of floods in valleys and low-lying areas.
