Health Ministry appeals to international community for protection of patients and medical staff in Gaza

RAMALLAH, December 27, 2024 (WAFA) — The Palestinian Ministry of Health has urgently called on the international community to intervene and protect patients, medical staff, and healthcare centers in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip, amidst the ongoing Israeli military offensive.

The appeal follows the Israeli forces' storming of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry condemned the Israeli occupation’s persistent war crimes, attributing them to the silence of the international community and powerful nations in the face of ethnic cleansing and massacres taking place.

The statement emphasized that the ongoing assault on Gaza has spared no one, with the Israeli genocide claiming the lives of unborn babies and even desecrating the graves of the deceased.

The Ministry held both the Israeli occupation and the international community fully responsible for the safety of the 350 patients, medical staff, and companions at Kamal Adwan Hospital. Communication with the hospital has been lost, and there are grave concerns for the well-being of those inside.

The Israeli forces had besieged the hospital early this morning, demanding that medical personnel, patients, and their companions gather in the hospital’s courtyard in preparation for an invasion.

This follows a brutal attack yesterday that resulted in the killing of five healthcare workers at the facility, including pediatrician Dr. Ahmad Samour, laboratory specialist Israa Abu Zayda, paramedics Abdul Majid Abu Al-Eish and Maher Al-Ajrami, and maintenance technician Fares Al-Houdali.
