RAMALLAH, December 9, 2024 (WAFA) - The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs announced on Monday that numerous Palestinian detainees at the occupation’s Etzion prison suffered severe food poisoning after consuming spoiled meals provided by the prison administration.
The commission’s lawyer, who managed to visit the facility after significant difficulty, reported that detainees suffered from intense abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, extreme weakness, yellowing of the skin, dehydration and the inability to stand. Several detainees also fainted.
The commission accused the prison authorities of deliberate abuse, stating that since the beginning of the occupation's aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023, Palestinian detainees have been subjected to harsher punitive measures. These include prolonged starvation, the poor quality and quantity of food and violent reprisals against detainees who protest, often leading to severe beatings and solitary confinement.
The commission urged all relevant international actors to take immediate action to end the suffering of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails and provide them with protection.
Located in the southern West Bank near northern Hebron, the Etzion Detention Center is part of the illegal Gush Etzion colonial bloc. It is considered one of the most notorious detention facilities in the world.
