NEW YORK, November, 20, 2024 (WAFA) – The UN Security Council is set to hold a session today regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
The Council will vote at 10:00 am New York time on a draft resolution submitted by the non-permanent member states of the Council calling for an end to the aggression on Gaza.
The draft resolution called on all parties to abide by their responsibilities under international law "regarding persons in their custody", and to provide basic services and humanitarian assistance "to the residents of Gaza, in addition to the parties' commitment to international law and international humanitarian law, especially with regard to the protection of civilians.
It also called on the parties to implement international resolution No. 2735 and stressed "that UNRWA remains the backbone of the humanitarian response in Gaza."
The Council requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations to submit a written report on the implementation of this resolution within three weeks and a comprehensive detailed report within 90 days to assess the needs in Gaza in the short, medium and long term, and a full breakdown of the humanitarian, social and economic consequences of the conflict in Gaza, in addition to an overview of the work of the entire UN system in the sector.
