Palestinian women need immediate protection amid Israel's ongoing genocidal war - Minister of Women's Affairs

RAMALLAH, November 19, 2024 (WAFA) - The Minister of Women's Affairs, Mona al-Khalili, stressed the urgent need to protect Palestinian women amid the Israeli occupation’s escalating aggression and ongoing genocide.

Her remarks came during a meeting with Luise Amtsberg, Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy of Germany, at the ministry’s office in Ramallah.

Khalili stressed the need for international organizations operating in Palestine to prioritize the needs of women and girls at this critical time, given that women are leading relief efforts and protecting their families and communities, whether in displacement areas within Gaza, or other Palestinian cities and refugee camps.

She further emphasized that the right of women to life and protection is a fundamental priority that cannot be overlooked, urging all parties to take responsibility.

For her part, Amtsberg reaffirmed Germany’s support for the two-state solution and the necessity of providing humanitarian aid to those affected in Gaza and the West Bank.

She also acknowledged the dangers posed by Israel’s colonial expansion, both in terms of its impact on the political process and its violation of international law.

Amtsberg conveyed her understanding of the urgent needs of women in Gaza and the difficult conditions they endure at every level, emphasizing that the protection of women and the provision of humanitarian aid are immediate priorities, as guaranteed by international humanitarian law.
