RAMALLAH, October 28, 2024 (WAFA) – Presidential spokesperson, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, rejected and condemned the new Israeli legislation banning UNRWA from operating within Israel, stressing that it is contrary to international law, and constitutes a challenge to UN resolutions that represent international legitimacy.
Abu Rudeineh said the newly-passed law aims to liquidate the issue of refugees and their right to return and compensation and that "we will not allow it", stressing that the resolution is not only against refugees, but against the United Nations and the world that made a decision to form UNRWA.
He said that the overwhelming vote of the so-called Knesset on the bill shows that Israel has turned into a fascist state. He emphasized that this situation is no longer confined to a few ministers but represents the so-called state of Israel.
He stressed that the world must treat Israel as a racist state and remove it from international legitimacy.
Abu Rudeineh said that UNRWA was created under UN Resolution 302 on December 18, 1949, stressing that the refugee issue is fundamental to the Palestinian cause.
He described the issue of refugees as a red line for any potential solution, arguing that true security and stability in the region hinge on a fair and comprehensive resolution to the refugee issue, in line with international law, especially the implementation of UN resolution 194.
He stated that the occupation would not have dared to defy the international community or implement policies that have plunged the region into violence and instability without continuous U.S. political, financial and military backing.
He called on the international community to take decisive action against this dangerous Israeli legislation that contravenes international law. He affirmed that the Palestinian people and their leadership will not allow the occupation's schemes to undermine the rights of Palestinian refugees.
