TULKARM, October, 21, 2024 (WAFA) – Several Palestinian farmers and international activists suffered from suffocation from toxic gas on Monday when they were attacked by the Israeli occupation forces and colonists while picking olives in Beit Lid lands east of Tulkarm.
The director of the office of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission in the north, Murad Shteiwi, said that that the occupation forces along with colonists began firing live bullets and toxic gas bombs towards the farmers and the international activists and volunteers.
Shteiwi added that dozens suffered from suffocation from toxic gas, while the volunteers refused to leave the area and support the farmers, and continued to work in picking olives despite the occupation's threats.
This activity came at the invitation of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Beit Lid Municipality, the Fatah Movement and the sports club in the town, as part of a campaign to support farmers in picking olives in their lands, especially those adjacent to the colonial outposts.
This year, the olive harvest season in the West Bank is witnessing repeated attacks by colonists and occupation forces, including burning and cutting down olive trees, stealing the crop, and preventing farmers from reaching their lands.
