Israeli forces demolish residential apartment near Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, Thursday, July 25, 2024 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces Thursday demolished a residential apartment in the village of Al-Walaja, northwest of Bethlehem.

The head of the village council in Al-Walaja, Khader Al-Araj, told WAFA that an occupation army force, accompanied by bulldozers, stormed the Ain Hweizeh area in the village, and demolished an apartment belonging to local resident Ahmed Samir Abu Khayara.

He explained that the occupation forces demolished the apartment, which was under construction, under the pretext that it was built without a license, adding that it was a second floor of the house of Abu Khayara.

On July 15, the occupation forces demolished five homes in Al-Maqbara neighborhood in Ain Jwiza area in the village of Al-Walaja.

Since the start of the Israel's comprehensive aggression against Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in October 2023, and in parallel with the unprecedented destruction of homes, buildings and facilities in the Strip, demolitions of Palestinian citizens’ homes have escalated, especially in Area C, which constitutes about 60 % of the West Bank area.

Data from the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission show that the occupation authorities demolished 318 facilities in the West Bank during the first half of 2024, compared to the demolition of 313 facilities during the entire year of 2023, which is an indication of an unprecedented escalation of demolitions.
