GAZA, Saturday, June 8, 2024 (WAFA) – The health authorities in the Gaza Strip today made an urgent call for supplying electricity generators for the Strip hospitals.
The health authorities said in a press statement that they have been relying on generators to supply electricity to the hospitals in the Strip around the clock following the destruction of Gaza’s sole power generation plant.
They warned that if the electricity generators cease to operate, this would lead to the inevitable death of patients and casualties and bring the health services to a complete standstill.
They added that several electricity generators suffered significant irreparable technical malfunctions, and some others were directly destroyed due to Israeli bombardment, and expected that the electricity generators in the remaining hospitals, health centres and medicine warehouses would also cease to operate following the ban on the entry of spare parts required for maintenance.
They pointed out that the Israeli occupation forces deliberately destroyed the electricity generators at the al-Shifa Medical Complex, the Nasse Medical Complex, the Indonesian Complex and the Kamal Adwan Hospital to take them out of service, while Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital now relies on a sole generator.
They stressed that while they have maintained contacts with international institutions, primarily the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), since the onset of the Israeli aggression to supply new generators and spare parts, but to no avail due to Israel’s intransigence to allow the entry of such indispensable generators.
