Colombia's Petro calls on the UN to send peacekeeping forces to Gaza

BOGOTA, Wednesday, May 29, 2027 (WAFA) -  Colombian President Gustavo Petro called on the United Nations on Wednesday to take action to send peacekeeping forces to Gaza.

“There is no other alternative than international peacekeeping forces in the Gaza Strip. Colombia will be part of these forces," he said on X.

He expressed his support for Palestine, while condemning the Israeli occupation massacres in the city of Rafah.

On May 3, Colombia officially broke its diplomatic ties with Israel due to the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Within 48 hours since Sunday evening, Israel killed 73 displaced people in three massacres targeting their tents in areas west of Rafah Governorate that Israel claimed were “safe.”
