ITUC solidarity delegation arrives in West Bank

JERICHO, Tuesday, May 28, 2024 (WAFA) – A delegation of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) today arrived in the occupied West Bank city of Jericho, starting a three-day official visit to Palestine.

The delegation, which comprised heads and representatives of the International Federation of Journalists, the International Federation of Building and Wood Workers, Public Services International and World Confederation of Teachers, was received by Hussein Hamayel, Jericho and the Jordan Valley Governor, and Emad Awajna, Secretary of the Jericho branch of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU), at the General Administration for Borders and Crossings.

On May 20, the PGFTU Secretary-General, Shaher Saad, stated that the ITUC delegation’s visit represents a natural extension of the global solidarity movement with the Palestinian people, whose scope and effectiveness is expanding from Melbourne to California, reaching Palestine itself.

He added that the members of the delegation seek to learn closely about the suffering of the Palestinian people, meet Palestinian leaders, and learn about the labor, trade union, social, and political activities of the Palestinian community.

“From the first moment of the barbaric Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions embarked on a large-scale global communications campaign to explain what is happening in Palestine, expose the crimes of genocide committed in Gaza and the West Bank and attract more support and advocacy for our people,” he revealed.
