PM Mustafa discusses Gaza ceasefire efforts with Italian counterpart in Rome

ROME, Saturday, May 25, 2024 (WAFA) — Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mohammed Mustafa, met today with his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, in the Italian capital, Rome, to discuss efforts to achieve a ceasefire and provide relief to the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Mustafa briefed his Italian counterpart on the developments in Palestine and the ongoing genocide waged by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip, in addition to the continuous Israeli violations and settler terrorism in the West Bank, as well as the unprecedented escalation of settlement activities posing a threat to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

He emphasized that the priority now is to cease the genocide in Gaza, restore basic services to meet the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people there, and release the Palestinian clearance funds withheld by the hard-right Israeli government.

Mustafa urged Italy to recognize the State of Palestine, following the footsteps of 147 countries around the world that have done so, including Spain, Norway, and Ireland.

In turn, Meloni affirmed her country's support for the two-state solution and readiness to work together, especially during her country's presidency of the G7 Group, to achieve a two-state solution. She pointed out that the situation in the Middle East and the war on Gaza are topping the agenda of the group's meetings.
