Health Ministry: Deliberate shelling forces medics and patients to evacuate the Kamal Adwan Hospital

GAZA, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 (WAFA) – Deliberate Israeli artillery shelling Tuesday evening forced medics and patients to evacuate the Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, according to the Health Ministry.

The Ministry said in a press statement that the Israeli occupation forces targeted the hospital, where there were approximately 150 medical staff in addition to scores of patients and casualties at the Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Unit and a number of newborn babies in incubators.

It added that the medical staff of the Hospital transferred under fire the casualties and patients under very difficult conditions, posing a grave dangers to their lives amid relentless Israeli selling in the vicinity of and the access roads to the hospital.

It slammed the shelling of the Kamal Adwan and al-Awda Hospitals as another crime, which can be added to the record of Israel’s heinous crimes against Palestinian health facilities in the war-torn Strip and the West Bank, rendering 22 hospitals completely non-operational, as 14 others continue to partially operate under very critical conditions.

The situation in Kamal Adwan escalated as the Israeli artillery shelling targeted the reception and emergency department and the gate of the hospital, and this started yesterday.

The Ministry urged the international community and international human rights organization to exert more pressure on the occupation authorities to stop their genocidal aggression and ensure the provision of urgent protection to the Palestinian health sector.

According to the Health Ministry’s statistics, over 500 Palestinian medical staff have been killed in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank since October 7, 2023.
