PARIS, Saturday, May 11, 2024 (WAFA) - France today called on Israel to cease, without delay, its military operation in the city of Rafah, in the southern besieged Gaza Strip, as it threatens to cause a catastrophic situation for the Strip’s population.
The French Foreign Ministry, in a statement on the X platform, called on the Israeli authorities to stop this military operation without delay and to return to the path of negotiations, which it stressed is the only possible way to secure a permanent ceasefire.
Such an operation threatens to create a catastrophic situation for the civilian population in Gaza who have already been displaced several times, it said.
The French Foreign Ministry also urged Israel to reopen the Rafah crossing with Egypt immediately to ensure humanitarian access to the civilian population and allow the most vulnerable persons to leave the Gaza Strip.
