GAZA, Saturday, February 3, 2024 (WAFA) - The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) today strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ direct targeting of the society’s headquarters and the adjacent Al-Amal Hospital in the city of Khan Yunis, resulting in the killing of at least three displaced persons and the director of the Society’s Youth and Volunteers Department, Hedaya Hamad.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society further denounced the ongoing targeting of Al-Amal Hospital and PRCS headquarters for the twelfth day in a row, amid constant shelling and shooting by Israeli drones and tanks to prevent any movement on the ground.
PRCS pointed out that the occupation military tanks and vehicles continued to intensively bomb the association’s buildings and Al-Amal Hospital, blocking access of ambulance crews and civil defense teams.
The association said, in a statement, that it strongly condemns the occupation’s intensification of its attacks on its headquarters in Khan Yunis, which resulted so far in the tragic loss of nearly 43 people, including three of its staff, and the injury of about 153 others due to the ongoing Israeli shelling inside the association’s branch.
According to PRCS, the humanitarian conditions inside Al-Amal Hospital have become tragic, as the hospital suffers from a severe shortage of oxygen, surgical supplies, antibiotics, and medications for people with chronic diseases.
PRCS added that there is a shortage in the fuel stock necessary to ensure the continued operation of the electricity generator, and an extreme scarcity of food available for patients, medical teams and displaced people.
The association called for the need to open an urgent humanitarian corridor to evacuate the displaced people along with the wounded with serious injuries to enable them to receive treatment in other hospitals, otherwise they will lose their lives due to the ongoing Israeli shelling and sieging of the hospital.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society held the occupation fully responsible for the lives of its crews and more than a hundred sick and wounded people receiving treatment inside Al-Amal Hospital, and about 7,000 displaced persons who sought refuge inside the hospital and the PRCS’s buildings.
It appealed to the international community and UN institutions to intervene immediately and urgently to protect its medical staff and oblige the occupation to respect the Red Crescent emblem in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
