Foreign Ministry: It's time for international justice to win; we call on countries to support South Africa’s step

RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 11, 2024 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates confirmed that the Palestinian people and their leadership look forward to South Africa’s case before the International Court of Justice, as it is a historic event in the process of the Palestinian and South African joint struggle in the face of the injustice and genocide.

The Foreign Ministry affirmed, in a statement, that holding Israel, the illegal occupying power, accountable, using all legal tools, and through international justice institutions and international law enforcement, is the main focus of the legal strategy of the State of Palestine, and the core of the diplomatic and international movement.

It considered that what encouraged Israel and its various tools, including government officials, military personnel, and colonialists, to commit crimes, leading to the commission of, and incitement to commit, the crime of genocide, is due to international failure, the failure to take practical steps to hold it accountable, and to enforce international consensus decisions, and the complicity of some countries and international bodies committing the crime of genocide through the Veto, and supplying Israel with various types of lethal weapons and political support, instead of assuming its responsibilities to prevent the crime of genocide.

The Ministry reiterated its continued coordination and full support, in addition to its thanks to the leadership and people of South Africa for the courageous step and action, in order to mobilize the international community to clarify Israel’s commission of the crime of genocide and its legal dimensions.

The Ministry also expressed her confidence in the legal advocacy presented by South Africa against Israel, recalling the principled legacy of South Africa’s struggle against colonialism and apartheid, which qualifies it to be the state that defends the supremacy of international law and its institutions, in the face of injustice and aggression, and to prevent the crime of genocide.

Palestine's friendly countries, consistent with their principles and the principles of international law, called on South Africa to support its steps before the International Court of Justice, and to submit its pleas to the court after completing the precautionary and temporary measures, in order to win justice and prevent the genocide of the Palestinian people.
