Israel demolishes family home in occupied Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 (WAFA) - Israeli occupation authorities razed a Palestinian-owned house today in the neighborhood of Sur Baher, located south of occupied Jerusalem.

The targeted residence belonged to the Khateeb family, who reportedly faced an assault by Israeli occupation forces before their home was demolished, according to local sources.

The sources added that among the victims of the assault was an elderly family member who suffered a health setback during the incident. He was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention.

The Khateeb family, consisting of eight members, revealed that as a result of the demolition of their home, standing for 23 years, a significant portion of the family's belongings inside the house were destroyed.

Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem, a part of the internationally recognized Palestinian Territory that has been subject to Israeli military occupation since 1967, are denied their citizenship rights and are instead classified only as "residents" whose permits can be revoked if they move away from the city for more than a few years.

They are also discriminated against in all aspects of life including housing, employment and services, and are unable to access services in the West Bank due to the construction of Israel's separation wall.
