JENIN, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 (WAFA) – The Israeli occupation forces Wednesday detained three Palestinians following an Israeli occupation aggression against the city of Jenin and its camp, amid major destruction of the infrastructure.

Security and local sources told WAFA that the occupation detained Mahmoud Al-Bitawi from the Jenin camp, and Thaer Hussein Asous and Mustafa Muhannad Mar'i from the village of Al Shohdaa (Mothalth Ash Shuhada) after raiding and ransacking their homes.

The sources indicated that the occupation’s storming of the city of Jenin and its camp, which lasted for about 11 hours, left widespread destruction in the main and secondary streets, and in the city’s neighborhoods, especially Al-Bayader neighborhood and parts of the camp. It also caused destruction to citizens’ property, including vehicles, motorcycles, stalls, and the vegetable market.

They pointed out that the occupation raided dozens of homes, searched them, tampered with their contents, and detained a number of youths for several hours.

Director of Jenin Public Works and Housing, Bassam Marei, appealed to all institutions to work to support the municipality and stand by it so that it can rebuild the infrastructure destroyed by the occupation, including streets, roads, sewage and water networks.

He explained that the destruction caused by the occupation in Jenin and its camp to date since the start of the aggression against the Gaza Strip and the West Bank exceeds 20 million shekels.

Marei added that the competent authorities have begun working to open roads and rebuild what was destroyed by the occupation.

Jenin's mayor Nidal Obeidi said that the municipality is still assessing the damage caused by the occupation’s aggression, in order to begin reconstruction within the available capabilities.

It is noteworthy that since October 7th, the occupation army has stormed the city of Jenin and its camp 31 times, leaving dozens of dead and wounded, and massive destruction to the infrastructure.
