RAMALLAH, Friday, November 3, 2023 (WAFA) — Minister of Health, Mai Alkaila, has warned of a humanitarian catastrophe that may unfold in the coming hours as a result of the complete depletion of fuel reserves necessary to generate electricity in the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, the largest hospital in Gaza.

In a press statement released today, Alkaila pointed out that while secondary generators have been deployed in the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, their capacity is limited, and they can only provide power for a few lifesaving wards for only a few hours.

She emphasized that the severe fuel shortage has already forced 16 out of 35 hospitals in Gaza to cease operations due to Israeli airstrikes and fuel depletion.

Furthermore, an additional number of healthcare facilities are at risk of being rendered inoperative within less than 24 hours, increasing the urgency of the situation, she explained.
