RAMALLAH, Tuesday, October 24, 2023 (WAFA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates today warned of “the real dangers resulting from the positions of some countries that deliberately ignore the killing of Palestinian civilians and targeting them en masse in the ongoing Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip and the use of internationally prohibited weapons against them, destroying their homes and property and pushing them to emigrate.”
It made specific reference in a statement to Israel’s “heinous exploitation of these positions and using them as a cover for escalating its crimes, killings, destruction, and displacement in the Gaza Strip, while attacking the Palestinian humanitarian presence in the Strip, throwing more than 2 million Palestinians into the unknown while relieving themselves of any responsibility for them in the foreseeable future.”
The Ministry said, “Israel uses these misleading arguments in order to prolong the war, this time under the slogan of ‘creating the appropriate conditions for a ground war’ in an open political game to buy the time needed to destroy the Gaza Strip and get rid of its population.”
The Ministry called on the international community and all countries “to stop the discriminated dealing with civilians and in applying international law and the rules of war to all civilians,” considering that “the international double standards in looking at and dealing with civilians undermines what remains of credibility for any international effort made to stop targeting civilians and ensure continuous access to all basic humanitarian aid. It also leads to discrimination and selectivity in dealing with civilian victims wherever they are.”
The Ministry stressed that “what is required is an effective international intervention to stop the devastating war on the Palestinian people in general and on the Gaza Strip in particular.”
