NEW YORK, Monday, May 15, 2023 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas received last night in New York leaders of American organizations that support Palestinian rights as well as leaders of the Palestinian community.

The President praised the great efforts exerted by the pro-Palestine organizations that have great impact on American society and politics in favor of the Palestinian cause.

The leaders of these organizations affirmed their continuation in their effort to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people at all levels, and with the American people and their institutions.

The President also met with the leaders of the Palestinian community in the United States during which he stressed the importance of commemorating the Nakba this year, for the first time since 1948, with an official event at the United Nations headquarters in New York in order to consolidate the Palestinian narrative.

He briefed the community leaders on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the escalating Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, their land, and their Islamic and Christian sanctities.

He also briefed them on the efforts of the leadership in all international forums to confront the unilateral Israeli decisions, which violate international law and UN resolutions, and undermine the chances of reaching a just and comprehensive peace.

President Abbas praised the role of the Palestinian community in the United States in supporting the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of their work in forming an American public opinion in support of the Palestinian national cause.

The meetings were attended by the delegation accompanying the President.

President Abbas arrived in New York on Saturday to participate in the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the 1948 Nakba (catastrophe) of the Palestinian people, which the United Nations will commemorate today for the first time since 1948 with an official event at its headquarters.
