RAMALLAH, Thursday, April 6, 2023 (WAFA) – The UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, has called out Western media for their biased coverage of the Israeli raids on peaceful worshipers at Al-Aqsa Mosque, saying such an approach contributes to the regime's unchecked occupation.
“Misleading media coverage contributes to enabling Israel's unchecked occupation and must also be condemned and accounted for,” the UN expert said in a tweet.
Albanese was referring to the headline of a BBC news article that used the word “clashes” to refer to the brutal Israeli assault against unarmed Palestinian worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque early on Wednesday.
She added, “Renewed violence against Palestinian worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque on yet another Ramadan turned into suffering, must be condemned, investigated and accounted for.”
Albanese has frequently criticized Israel's occupation of Palestine and the regime’s relentless crimes against innocent Palestinians. She has been barred by Israel from entering the occupied Palestinian territories since her appointment as the UN special rapporteur in April 2022.
In January, hundreds of human rights and civil society organizations, academic institutions, and groups condemned the Israeli regime’s targeted smear campaign against Albanese.
