Japanese diplomat celebrates completion of medical equipment project in Gaza

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, October 11, 2022 (WAFA) – Head of Economic & Development Cooperation Section, Representative Office of Japan to Palestine Masahiro Matsui today visited Khan Younis governorate in the besieged Gaza Strip to celebrate the completion of the project funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), according to the Representative Office.

The Representative Office said in a press statement that a grant of USD 87,426 was extended to Ministry of Health to improve the medical service and access rehabilitation and physiotherapy department at Khan Younis governorate by introducing new medical equipment and help the patients who couldn’t get enough medical services especially in rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

Upon the completion of the project, the statement added, the direct beneficiaries shall be more than 3000 case in a year with almost a rate of 20000 physical expected to benefit from the project.

In his speech, Matsui emphasized Japan’s firm commitment to supporting Palestinian people from a human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to approximately USD 2.2 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian government, the civil institutions, municipalities, and the private sector since 2010.
