JERUSALEM, Monday, September 19, 2022 (WAFA) – Palestinian schools in occupied East Jerusalem today observed a general strike in rejection of attempts by the Israeli occupation government to impose the Israeli curriculum and distorted textbooks on the schools, according to local sources.

They said that all schools in the occupied city have observed the general strike called for by the nationalist forces demanding that the Israeli government and municipality stop interfering in the academic life of the Palestinian students in the occupied city and their right to learn their narrative and history as it is rather than distorted according to the narrative of the Israeli occupiers.

The Israeli Ministry of Education decided in July to revoke the teaching license from six schools in East Jerusalem for a period of one year under the pretext of teaching textbooks that allegedly incite against the occupying state and its army.

The ministry also sent letters in August to several other schools in Jerusalem threatening to revoke their license in the event any school is caught teaching the Palestinian textbooks that contain what it claimed to be “inciting” material.

The Palestinian schools in the city and parents have strongly objected to attempts by the occupation government to teach their children false and distorted material that suit the Israeli occupation rather than the facts as they are.
