Israeli forces gun down Palestinian south of Jenin

JENIN, Wednesday, July 6, 2022 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday morning gunned down a Palestinian youth in the town of Jaba', south of the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, according to security sources.

The sources said that Rafiq Riyad Ghannam, 20, sustained severe wounds after being shot by Israeli soldiers during confrontations in the northern West Bank town.

Ghannam was shot as he was standing in front of his family's house before he was detained along with another youth by the heavily-armed soldiers.

Ghannam’s family said that their son was deliberately cold-bloodedly murdered by the soldiers, who shot and wrapped his body in black plastic before taking him away.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry decried in a press statement that killing of Ghannam and considered this new crime as an integral part of the unabated extrajudicial killings of Palestinians.

It said that Israel, the occupying state, was pre-empting US President Joe Biden’s upcoming visit to the region by committing willful killings and escalating its aggression against the Palestinian people following the top Israeli political echelon’s instructions encouraging soldiers to unjustifiably shoot Palestinians who pose no imminent threat.

It held the Israeli government fully and directly responsible for this crime and called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute and issue arrest warrants against the Israeli perpetrators and expedite the opening of an investigation into war crimes committed by Israel.
