RAMALLAH, Saturday, July 17, 2021 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) has commended FC Barcelona's brave decision to move its match against the Israeli Bitar Jerusalem club, which was scheduled to take place on August 4 at Teddy Stadium in occupied Jerusalem, located on the lands of the village of Malha, a pre-1948 Palestinian village.
In a press statement today, PFA expressed its appreciation for FC Barcelona "for respecting the feelings of millions of its fans and supporters in the world, who were horrified by the idea that the club would play with one of the most racist clubs in our contemporary world."
In a letter to the President of FC Barcelona Joan Laporta, Jibril Rajoub, the Chairman of PFA, said the latest step by FC Barcelona was “an honest expression of Barcelona's true identity that shows the club's respect for the feelings of its millions of fans around the world."
Rajoub confirmed his position that he respects the decision of the Catalan club to play its friendly matches with the teams it chooses, "which is appreciated by millions of club fans."
Rajoub expressed to Mr. Laporta his regret at the attempt by political parties to manipulate football, assuring him at the same time of their shared conviction that football has a stronger influence than politics can achieve, because football has a real global influence and a greater ability to create unity.
He confirmed that the PFA had received a confirmation from FC Barcelona that the venue for the match will not be in Jerusalem, despite the attempts of the racist Bitar club to exploit Barcelona to play a political match by insisting on holding it in occupied Jerusalem.
