RAMALLAH, Sunday, May 23, 2021 (WAFA) - The Minister of Health, Mai Alkaila, said that the ‘barbaric’ Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip in recent weeks resulted in the killing of 277 citizens, including 70 children and 40 women, in addition to about 8,500 injuries.
She said during a press conference today that the ministry monitored 89 violations against treatment centers and ambulance vehicles, which she stressed constitute a flagrant violation of all international conventions and treaties and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Two doctors were killed in the Gaza Strip and a number of medical staff were injured, including a doctor in a critical condition.
She said the Israeli bombardment targeted various medical centers and clinics, including Beit Hanoun, the Indonesian, and al-Shifa Hospitals; among others.
She maintained that the massive destruction of buildings belonging to the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, as well as the attacks on paramedics at al-Aqsa Mosque, in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem, and in the West Bank, are clear proof of the Israeli violations that amount to war crimes, which she stressed are punishable under international law.
