Malki urges ICC prosecutor to take practical steps to strengthen her criminal investigation into situation in Palestine

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, May 19, 2021 (WAFA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad al-Malki Tuesday sent an urgent letter to the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, urging her to take prompt practical steps to strengthen her criminal investigation into the situation in Palestine.

Malki demanded the ICC prosecutor to issue a strongly worded warning statement over the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Israeli occupation in its onslaught on the Gaza Strip and its forcible expulsion of Palestinians from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah in occupied Jerusalem.

He stressed that taking practical steps by ICC at the current stage will serve as a warning to the occupation officials that what they are committing is under monitoring and scrutiny, and that her office will collect evidence of these crimes and analyze them as part of its investigation into the situation in Palestine.

He called on the ICC to take urgent and meaningful steps to ensure punishment for and prevention of the continuation of these crimes, as well as to identify those individuals whose actions will be subject to investigation, particularly the Israeli Prime Minister, Israeli Defense Minister, and the Army Chief of Staff.
