RAMALLAH, Thursday, April 29, 2021 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused today on the ongoing discussion of whether legislative elections are going to be held on time or delayed.
Al-Ayyam daily said in its main front-page story that the Palestinian leadership is going to decide tonight the fate of the elections in light of Israeli stubbornness (on elections in Jerusalem).
It said that lists and civil society organizations reject any postponement in the elections.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida daily said President Mahmoud Abbas affirmed the necessity of the European Union pressuring Israel to allow elections in occupied Jerusalem.
Al-Quds daily quoted Fatah official, Mahmoud Aloul, saying that European countries pledged not to allow obstructions in Jerusalem, but the occupiers responded by imprisoning candidates.
The main front page headline in Al-Quds said a US delegation is expected in the region next month to discuss the allowances paid to the Palestinian prisoners vis-à-vis US assistance to the Palestinian Authority.
It also reported on intrusions by Israeli settlers on Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem as well as Israeli detentions in the occupied territories.
Al-Ayyam said Israeli police attacked people at Damascus Gate in Jerusalem. It also said that settlers attacked a Palestinian handicapped person in Jerusalem.
Coronavirus at home and abroad was also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies, which said that 14 people died of the disease in Palestine yesterday and 1084 new cases were recorded.
Al-Ayyam said Gaza is worried that the Indian variant is going to reach it.
