RAMALLAH, Friday, April 2, 2021 (WAFA) – Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 2248 new COVID-19 infections and 16 deaths were registered in Palestine during the last 24 hours.
In her daily report on the COVID-19 pandemic in Palestine, the health minister she 14 deaths from coronavirus were registered in the West Bank, and two others in the Gaza Strip. She said no updates were available regarding the situation in occupied Jerusalem.
Of the total infections registered, 1063 cases were in the West Bank, while another 1185 cases were in the Gaza Strip, which recently saw an unexpected surge in daily infections due to the outbreak of more contagious mutations in the territory.
No updates were available regarding new infections Jerusalem, which reports once every two or three days.
Meanwhile, the West Bank had 1475 recoveries, while the Gaza Strip recorded 234 cases.
The health minister said 204 patients of coronavirus remain under intensive care, of whom 63 are on ventilators. A total of 688 patients of COVID-19 are also receiving treatment at hospitals in the West Bank, she added.
Alkaila pointed out that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far stood at 89.5 percent, while active cases topped 9.4 percent. Deaths stood at 1.1 percent of total infections.
Concerning vaccinations, the health minister said 89,933 people have received their first jab of the vaccine in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, of whom 10,146 received the second dose.
