Palestine records 1,851 Covid-19 cases, 21 deaths

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, March 17, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestine today recorded 1,851 new Covid-19 cases and 21 deaths, according to Health Minister Mai Al-Kaileh.

She announced that 1,851 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 21 others died of it in the occupied territories.

Among the new 1,851 cases, 1,595 cases were recorded in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and 256 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank, Hebron district was ranked the first with (395) cases, followed by Nablus (290) cases, Ramallah & al-Bireh (228) cases, Jenin (187) cases, Tulkarm (166) cases, Bethlehem (100) cases, Qalqiliya (92) cases, Jerusalem suburbs (51) cases, Salfit (41) cases, Tubas (26) cases and Jericho & the Jordan Valley (19) cases.

Al-Kaileh identified the deaths as 20 deaths from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and another from the besieged Gaza Strip.

In terms of the number of deaths, Ramallah & al-Bireh district and Hebron district were ranked the first among the West Bank districts, with 5 deaths recorded in each, followed by Nablus (4) deaths, Bethlehem (3) deaths, in addition to Jenin, Salfit and Jerusalem suburbs, each district of which recorded a death case.

She added that 1,794 Covid-19 patients recovered; 1,641 recovery cases in the West Bank, including Jerusalem district, and 153 others in the Gaza Strip.

She pointed that 192 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 54 who are connected to ventilators.

Recoveries account for 89.3 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 9.6 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.
