Palestine records 1,996 new Covid-19 cases, ten deaths

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, February 23, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestine today recorded 1,996 new Covid-19 cases and ten deaths, according to Health Minister Mai al-Kaileh.

She announced that 1,996 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and ten others died of it in the occupied territories.

Among the new 1,996 cases, 1,821 cases were recorded in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and 175 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank, Jerusalem city was ranked the first with (588) cases, followed by Ramallah and al-Bireh (313) cases, Hebron (229) cases, Bethlehem (184) cases, Nablus (109) cases, Jerusalem suburbs (94) cases, Salfit (77) cases, Tulkarm (61) cases, Jenin (57) cases, Jericho & the Jordan Valley (51) cases, Qalqiliya (38) cases besides to Tubas (20) cases.

Al-Kaileh identified all the deaths from the West Bank. They were distributed as follows: Hebron (4) deaths, Ramallah & al-Bireh (1) death, Tulkarm (1) death, Qalqiliya (1) death, Nablus (1) death besides to two deaths in Jerusalem city.  

She added that 1,120 Covid-19 patients recovered; 985 recovery cases in the West Bank and 135 others in Gaza.

She pointed that 92 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 26 who are connected to ventilators.

Recoveries account for 92.2 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 6.7 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.
