Palestine records 575 new Covid-19 cases, 11 deaths

RAMALLAH, January 29, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestine today recorded 575 new novel coronavirus cases and 11 deaths, according to Health Minister Mai al-Kaileh.

Al-Kaileh announced that 575 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 11 others died of it in the occupied territories.

Among the new 575 cases, 218 cases were recorded in the West Bank and 357 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank, Nablus district was ranked the first with 47 cases, followed by Ramallah and al-Bireh (44), Bethlehem (28), Hebron (27), Jenin (21), Tubas (15), Salfit (14), Tulkarm (11), Jericho & the Jordan Valley (6) and Qalqiliya (5).

Al-Kaileh identified the new deaths as eight deaths from the West Bank and three others from the Gaza Strip. The West Bank deaths were distributed as follows: Jenin (3), Nablus (2), Ramallah & al-Bireh (1), Hebron (1) and Tulkarm (1).  

She added that 520 Covid-19 patients recovered; 238 recovery cases in the West Bank and 282 others in the Gaza Strip.

She pointed that 64 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 20 who are connected to ventilators.

According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 178,001.

Out of the 178,001 cases, 107,172 are recorded in the West Bank, 50,996 in the Gaza Strip and 19,833 in East Jerusalem.

Recoveries have totaled 166,961, and the death toll reached 2,001, leaving a total of 9,039 active cases.

Recoveries account for 93.8 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 5.1 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.
