Two teens among 18 Palestinians detained from West Bank

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, January 27, 2021 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Wednesday overnight detained 18 Palestinians, including two teens, from various parts of the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) and security sources.

They confirmed that Israeli forces rounded up a father and his two children, aged 15 and 16, after ransacking their house in Burqin town, west of the northern West Bank city of Jenin.

The 16-year-old child is still recovering from Israeli military gunshot wounds he sustained several months ago.

They also detained two other Palestinians after storming their families’ houses in Qabatiya town, south of Jenin.

Still in the northern West Bank, Israeli troops forced their way into Madama village, south of Nablus city, and re-arrested a former prisoner.

They also detained another Palestinian in a raid in Sebastia town, northwest of the city.

In Tubas district, PPS confirmed an Israeli military raid in Tammun town, northeast of the city, resulting in re-arresting a former prisoner.

Meanwhile, Israeli military vehicles stormed Hizma town, northeast of Jerusalem city, where soldiers re-arrested five former prisoners.

In Bethlehem district, Israeli soldiers detained a Palestinian after breaking into and searching his family’s house in the Bethlehem city neighborhood of Wadi Shaheen.

In Hebron district, soldiers ransacked several stores and detained two others in the vicinity of Tareq Bin Ziad Secondary School in the southern part of Hebron city.

In Ramallah and al-Bireh district, the sources confirmed a similar military raid in Birzeit town, north of the city, resulting in the detention of two others.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
