Palestine records 494 new Covid-19 cases, 12 deaths

RAMALLAH, Friday, January 22, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestine today recorded 494 new Covid-19 cases and 12 deaths, according to Health Minister Mai al-Kaileh.

Al-Kaileh announced that 494 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 12 others died of it in the occupied territories.

Among the new 494 cases, 219 cases were recorded in the West Bank and 275 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank, Ramallah & al-Bireh district was ranked the first with 45 cases, followed by Tulkarm (26), Nablus (23), Hebron (22), Tubas (21), Jerusalem suburbs (20), Bethlehem (19), Jenin (17), Salfit (16), Jericho & the Jordan Valley (8) and Qalqilia (2).

Al-Kaileh identified the new deaths as eight from the West Bank and four from the Gaza Strip. The West Bank deaths were distributed as follows: Jenin (3), Ramallah & al-Bireh (2), Jerusalem suburbs (1), Bethlehem (1) and Hebron (1).

She added that 792 Covid-19 patients recovered; 297 recovery cases in the West Bank and 495 others in Gaza.

She pointed that 77 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 22 who are connected to ventilators.

According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 173,964.

Out of the 173,964 cases, 105,370 are recorded in the West Bank, 49,187 in the Gaza Strip and 19,407 in East Jerusalem.

Recoveries have totaled 161,954, and the death toll reached 1,937, leaving a total of 10,073 active cases.

Recoveries account for 93.1 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 5.8 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.
