RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 21, 2021 (WAFA) – Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that the first 17 cases of the British mutation of COVID-19 were discovered today in Palestine.
She said in a press release that the 17 cases of the British variant were discovered in the villages of Beit Surik, Bir Nabala, Al-Judeira, Beit Hanina, Al-Ram and Shuafat, all in the Jerusalem Governorate in the West Bank.
She pointed out that a working team from the Ministry of Health and the Arab American University has conducted several tests to detect the new genetic mutation of the coronavirus from samples taken from a number of patients. Alkaila added that the research team was able to detect the presence of the new genetic mutation of the coronavirus in some swabs collected from the West Bank.
Alkaila noted that preventive medicine teams will follow up the patients and their health conditions, and will make the necessary surveys to track other cases, if any.
