Palestine confirms 574 new coronavirus cases, seven deaths

RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 21, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestine recorded today 574 new coronavirus cases and seven deaths, according to Health Minister Mai al-Kaila.

She announced that 574 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and seven others died of it in the occupied territories.

Among the new 574 cases, 288 cases were recorded in the West Bank and 286 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank, Jerusalem city was ranked the first with 101 cases, followed by Ramallah and al-Bireh (47), Nablus (26), Hebron (23), Jerusalem suburbs (19), Tulkarm (19), Jenin (17), Bethlehem (14), Tubas (11), Qalqilia (5), Salfit (4) and Jericho & the Jordan Valley (2).

Al-Kaileh identified the new deaths as six from the West Bank and one from the Gaza Strip. The West Bank deaths were distributed as follows: Bethlehem (2), Jenin (1), Ramallah & al-Bireh (1), Nablus (1) and Jerusalem city (1).  

She added that 972 Covid-19 patients recovered; 442 recovery cases in the West Bank and 530 others in Gaza.

She pointed that 78 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 21 who are connected to ventilators.

According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 173,470.

Out of the 173,470 cases, 105,151 are recorded in the West Bank, 48,912 in the Gaza Strip and 19,407 in East Jerusalem.

Recoveries have totaled 161,162, and the death toll reached 1,925, leaving a total of 10,383 active cases.

Recoveries account for 92.9 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 6.0 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.1 percent.
