Pandemic claims 21 more lives in Palestine, 1251 new infections

RAMALLAH, Thursday, January 07, 2021 (WAFA) – Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 21 deaths from COVID-19, 1251 new infections and 1592 recoveries were registered in Palestine during the last 24 hours.

In her daily report on the COVID-19 pandemic, she said 10 people died in the West Bank, seven in the Gaza Strip, and four in occupied East Jerusalem.

On the geographic distribution of the new cases, Alkaila noted that 94 infections were registered in Ramallah, 67 in Hebron, 64 in Nablus, 55 in Jenin, 54 in Tulkarm, 54 in Bethlehem, 24 in Salfit, 17 in Tubas, 14 in Qalqilia, 10 in Jericho, and seven in the West Bank side of the Jerusalem Governorate.

In occupied East Jerusalem, a total of 256 new cases were registered. Meanwhile, the Gaza Strip had 535 new cases.

Alkaila pointed out that 107 COVID-19 patients are currently under intensive care, of whom 23 are on ventilators.

The Health Minister noted that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far reached 88.2 percent, while active cases scored 10.8 percent. Deaths stood at 1.0 percent of total infections.
