Palestine confirms 1,088 new coronavirus cases, 14 deaths

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, January 06, 2021 (WAFA) – Palestine recorded today 1,088 new coronavirus cases and 14 deaths, according to Health Minister Mai al-Kaila.

She said in her daily report on the coronavirus pandemic in the occupied Palestinian territories that 1,088 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 14 others died of it.

Among the new 1,088 cases, 478 cases were recorded in the West Bank and 610 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank, Ramallah remains at top of new cases with 111 cases, followed by Nablus (64), Tulkarm (63), Hebron (62), Tubas (44), Jenin (40), Bethlehem (30), Jerusalem suburbs (23), Qalqilia (22), Salfit (13) and Jericho (6).

Al-Kaileh identified the new deaths as nine from the West Bank and five from the Gaza Strip. The West Bank deaths were distributed as follows: Tulkarem (2), Nablus (2), Hebron (1), Jenin (3) and Salfit (1).

She added that 1,585 Covid-19 patients recovered; 780 recovery cases in the West Bank and 805 others in the Gaza Strip.

She pointed that 115 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 27 who are connected to ventilators.

According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 162,322.

Out of the 162,322 cases, 100,513 are recorded in the West Bank, 43,744 in the Gaza Strip and 18,065 in East Jerusalem.

Recoveries have totaled 142,604, and the death toll reached 1,663, leaving a total of 18,055 active cases.

Recoveries account for 87.9 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 11.1 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.0 percent.
