Palestine registers 1450 COVID-19 infections, 18 deaths

RAMALLAH, Friday, January 01, 2021 (WAFA) – Minister of Health Mai Alkaila announced today that 1450 new cases of COVID-19, 18 deaths and 2,088 recoveries were registered across Palestine during the past 24 hours.

In her daily COVID-19 report, Alkaila said a total of 5,110 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the West Bank, Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip during the said time.

On the geographic distribution of the new cases, 36 infections were registered in the West Bank side of the Jerusalem Governorate, 24 in Salfit, 80 in Nablus, 12 in Jericho, 21 in Tubas, 74 in Bethlehem, 75 in Jenin, 49 in Tulkarm, 84 in Ramallah, 70 in Hebron, and five in Qalqilia.

In the Gaza Strip, a total of 689 new infections were registered. Meanwhile in occupied East Jerusalem, 231 new cases were registered.

The Health Minister pointed out that 116 COVID-19 patients are currently under intensive care, 25 of whom are on ventilators.

Alkaila added that the recovery rate across Palestine has so far reached 86.0 percent, while active cases reached 13.0 percent. Deaths stood at just one percent of the total cases.
