RAMALLAH, Saturday, December 19, 2020 (WAFA) – The Israeli army crackdown on the weekly Palestinian protests in the occupied territories against the Israeli occupation and the latest figures on the coronavirus pandemic were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted the protests and the army attacks and said that dozens were injured at different locations in the West Bank when Israeli soldiers shot rubber bullets and teargas at the protesters.
Al-Ayyam reported on the rise in attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank that include breaking into homes, assaulting people and pelting vehicles with stones.
Al-Quds said Palestinian residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem have demonstrated against Israeli takeover of their homes for the benefit of Jewish settlers.
It said that the Israeli occupation forces harassed Muslim worshippers attempting to reach Al-Haram Al-Sharif /the noble sanctuary/ that includes Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem to perform the Friday prayers, while they allowed Jewish fanatics freedom to hold dance rituals at two gates leading to the walled Al-Haram Al-Sharif.
The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, highlighted the latest with coronavirus in Palestine and said 21 people have died from the disease, 2170 new cases were recorded in 24 hours and 131 patients are in intensive care.
It said in a report quoting Palestinian health officials that in order to fight the corona pandemic and prevent its spread in the community, 70 percent of the public should be inoculated against the coronavirus, while what Palestine will receive in vaccines is enough to inoculate only 20 percent of its population.
Al-Ayyam reported as well on the coronavirus at home and also said that five people have died of the disease in East Jerusalem and 146 new cases were recorded yesterday.
It said the situation with the pandemic in Gaza, where 997 new cases were recorded yesterday, is difficult and highly critical.
Al-Quds said over 1.6 million deaths worldwide as a result of the corona pandemic and over 75 million infections.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Palestine was elected to the Executive Office of the International Criminal Court.
It also said that the Hamas-run Awqaf in Gaza is calling to restrict Christmas celebrations in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.
Al-Quds said, in a report taken from Israeli newspapers, that the Israeli "sex tourism" is booming in Dubai.
