RAMALLAH, Tuesday, December 15, 2020 (WAFA) - Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh condemned today the systematic and continuous and systematic colonial attack on the occupied city of Jerusalem.
Abu Rudeineh denounced in a statement the intensified Israeli settlement plans in the city of Jerusalem, including isolating the Old City and its surroundings from the rest of Jerusalem as well as isolating the city from the rest of the territories of the Palestinian state.
He stressed that such plans aim at creating a new colonial reality that makes realizing the two-state solution and Palestine's sovereignty over its territories impossible.
Abu Rudeineh said Israel is targeting approximately 30 Palestinian families in East Jerusalem, especially in Batn al-Hawa in Silwan and Sheikh Jarrah, where Palestinians are facing the imminent eviction from their homes at any moment now in favor of Israeli right-wing organizations.
This will lead to the displacement of dozens, including children, women, and the elderly, said Abu Rudeineh, calling for an urgent intervention from the international community as well as taking concrete and immediate measures to deter Israel, hold it accountable and oblige it to commit to international law and United Nations resolutions, especially Security Council Resolution 2334.
He pointed out that Israel continues to target the occupied city of Jerusalem by changing its geographical and demographic character and erasing its Arab identity and culture through settlement projects, including settlement units, roads, tunnels, and the cable car project.
He added that Israel targets the city of Jerusalem through various illegal measures, including home demolition and the forced displacement of Palestinians, seizure of land, withdrawal of IDs, theft of natural resources, closure of Palestinian institutions, attacks on Christian and Islamic holy sites, settler terror, and other unilateral practices in violation of the rules of international law and United Nations resolutions.
Abu Rudeineh stressed that ending the occupation and achieving the national independence of the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the key to peace and stability in the region.
