Palestine hits highest daily Covid-19 infections since pandemic outbreak

RAMALLAH, Thursday, December 03, 2020 (WAFA) – Palestine today recorded 2,738 new novel coronavirus cases and 19 fatalities, hitting the highest daily infections since the pandemic outbreak in March.

Health Minister Mai al-Kaileh announced that 2,738 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 19 others died of it in the occupied territories.

Among the 2,738 new cases, 266 cases were recorded in Hebron governorate, 311 in Nablus, 162 in Bethlehem, 64 in Qalqilia, 192 in Ramallah & al-Bireh, 342 in Jenin, 19 in Jericho & the Jordan Valley, 105 in Salfit, 134 in Tulkarm, 50 in Tubas, 44 in Jerusalem suburbs, 222 in Jerusalem city and 827 in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Kaileh identified the 19 new fatalities 15 from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and four others from the Gaza Strip. The West Bank fatalities were distributed as follows: four in Jenin governorate, three in Nablus, three in Ramallah & al-Bireh, one in Qalqilia, one in Tulkarm, one in Hebron and two others in Jerusalem city.   

Al-Kaileh confirmed the recovery of 1,469 Covid-19 patients as 74 others are still receiving treatment at the intensive care units, including 17 who are connected to respirators.

According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 106,312.

Out of the 106,312 cases, 69,685 are recorded in the West Bank, 23,023 in the Gaza Strip and 13,604 in East Jerusalem.

Recoveries have totaled 80,853, and the death toll reached 873, leaving a total of 24,586 active cases.

Recoveries account for 76.1 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 23.1 percent and the death toll accounts for 0.8 percent.
