RAMALLAH, Friday, November 20, 2020 (WAFA) – The Presidency of the State of Palestine welcomed today the position of the Middle East Quartet which affirmed that the Palestinian Government's resumption of the relations with Israel creates the necessary conditions to build confidence and return to direct negotiations on final status issues.

In a press statement, the Presidency reiterated the Palestinian “commitment to resuming negotiations in order to achieve peace in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.” It praised the proposal of Russia, the United Nations and the European Union to hold a meeting of the Quartet members along with other countries on resuming peace negotiations.

The Presidency also welcomed the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in which it affirmed the Russian position that lasting stability in the Middle East will not be possible without a just settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with the international legal framework approved by the United Nations, and on the basis of the principle of a two-state solution.

It commended the Russian position which called for a just solution to the Palestinian issue, and which would lead to improving the relations between the countries of the region.
