RAMALLAH, Monday, October 12, 2020 (WAFA) – A second member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has tested positive for Coronavirus yesterday.

The PLO’s Department of Public Diplomacy and Policy announced in a statement that its head, Hanan Ashrawi, 74, has tested positive for COVID-19, and therefore all her official engagements and scheduled events have been postponed until her recovery.

“We regret to announce that Dr. Hanan Ashrawi has tested positive for COVID-19,” said the announcement. “We wish her a speedy recovery.”

Saeb Erekat, secretary-general of the PLO’s Executive Committee, had also tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

Saeb Erekat “is doing very well and his morale is great while he is residing in his Jericho house. Symptoms controlled and Inshallah we’ll witness a speedy recovery,” tweeted his daughter, Dalal, on Saturday.

She told WAFA yesterday that after six days of contracting the disease her father's vital signs are stable, his appetite is normal, his mental state is very good, and his movement is light, adding that his oxygen level has dropped slightly and therefor he took few proportions of oxygen. His doctors said that he was beginning to recover, she said.

Erekat, 65, received a lung transplant in October 2017, which raised concern about his health after contracting the coronavirus disease.
