RAMALLAH, Thursday, September 10, 2020 (WAFA) – An autopsy carried out to the body of Daoud al-Khatib, a Palestinian prisoner in Israeli detention who was announced dead last week, has revealed that he died of a severe heart failure resulting from cardiomyopathy and coronary artery disease, today said the Palestinian Authority's Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission.
Kareem Ajwa, an attorney of the Commission, said the body of Khatib underwent an autopsy at Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in occupied Jerusalem in the presence of the Palestinian forensic doctor Ashraf Al-Qadi, delegated by the Ministry of Justice.
Khatib, 45 years old from Bethlehem, passed away on September 2 while at Ofer Prison and Detention Center near Ramallah.
He had suffered from bad health during his arrest and had a heart attack in 2017. The Palestinian Prisoners Commission said last week that the dismal health conditions in the Israeli prisons and medical negligence by the Israel Prison Service have contributed to the deterioration of his health until his death.
Khatib was scheduled to complete his sentence and be freed on December 4.
