Palestine records 696 new coronavirus infections, two fatalities

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, September 09, 2020 (WAFA) – Palestine today recorded 696 new novel coronavirus infections and two fatalities in the last 24 hours.

Health Minister Mai al-Kaileh announced that 696 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious disease and two others died of it in the occupied territories.

As part of the new infections, 102 infections were recorded in Hebron district, 71 others in Nablus, 48 others in Bethlehem, 48 others in Qaqilia, 71 others in Ramallah and al-Bireh, five others in Jenin, 33 others in Jericho and the Jordan Valley, 20 others in Tubas, 13 others in Tulkarem, 10 others in Salfit, 87 others in Gaza and 188 others in Jerusalem district.

She identified the two fatalities as a 64-year-old Palestinian from Bani Na‘im town, east of Hebron, and a 63-year-old man from al-Ubeidiya town, east of Bethlehem.

She added that 767 recovery cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

As part of the new 767 recovery cases, 270 cases were recorded in Ramallah and al-Bireh district, eight others in Tulkarem, 33 others in Qalqilia, 23 others in Jericho and the Jordan Valley, 327 others in Hebron, another in Salfit, 80 others in Jerusalem and 25 others in Gaza.

She pointed out that 27 COVID-19 patients were still receiving treatment at intensive care units, including four connected to respirators.

According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 36,214.

Out of the 36,214 cases, 26,563 are recorded in the West Bank, 1,356 in the Gaza Strip and 8,295 in East Jerusalem.

Recoveries have totaled 24,993, accounting for 69 percent of the total cases since the pandemic outbreak, and the death toll reached 217, accounting for 0.6 percent of the total cases.

This leaves a total of 11,004 active cases, accounting for 30.4 percent of the total cases.
