Palestine records two coronavirus fatalities

 

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, August 5, 2020 (WAFA) – Palestine recorded Tuesday night two novel coronavirus fatalities, raising the total death toll to 89.

The Health Ministry announced that two Palestinians from the southern West Bank district of Hebron died due to the highly contagious virus.

The first fatality was identified as a 57-year-old man from Beit Awwa town, west of Hebron. He was suffering from kidney failure and other chronic diseases.

The other fatality was identified as a 68-year-old man from Beit Ula town, northwest of Hebron.

According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 16,628.

Out of the 16,628 cases, 12,692 are recorded in the West Bank, 78 in the Gaza Strip and 3,858 in East Jerusalem.

Recoveries have totaled 7,929, including 1,510 in Jerusalem, leaving a total of 8,610 active cases.

In Hebron district, the current epicenter of the pandemic, confirmed cases totaled 8,295, accounting for almost 50 percent of total cases in the occupied territories.

Recovery cases in the district reached 4,273, leaving a total of 3,952 active cases, accounting for almost 46 percent of total active cases in the occupied territories.

Deaths in Hebron reached 70, accounting for almost 79 percent of the death toll in the occupied territories.
