Israel Re-Opens Border with Gaza after Attack on Egypt

RAFAH, August 7, 2012 (WAFA) - Israel Tuesday re-opened Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing with the Gaza Strip to allow entry of products and fuel into the Gaza Strip, according to crossing's officials.

Raed Fattouh, who heads a committee in charge of entry of products into Gaza, told WAFA the Israeli authorities reopened the crossing after closing it in the wake of the attack on an Egyptian border security checkpoint leaving 16 dead Egyptian soldiers on Sunday.

Israel allowed products and aid trucks in the Strip, as well as pumped limited amounts of cooking gas.

Egypt closed Rafah crossing border indefinitely on Monday; while Hamas announced it closed off all tunnels leading in and out of Gaza. This left Karem Abu Salem crossing the only opened commercial crossing in the Strip.
